Automobile and Scientific Inventions Essay Example for Free
Automobile and Scientific Inventions Essay There are many scientific inventions in our world. Some of these inventions are even in the houses that we live in. There are inventions such as computer games, the microwave oven, and even the Moto vehicle. These inventions make our lives much easier but it destroys the world as well. Everything and everyone gets harmed some way by these inventions. Letââ¬â¢s start off with this. The computer is entertaining but yet dangerous to our eyes. Children of our world love being on the computer. But they shouldnââ¬â¢t love it too much, because if you stare and are too close to the computer for far too long, your eyes begin to hurt and you become shot sighted. This is so because your brain decides that you donââ¬â¢t need to be able to see things far away and only see thing that are close to you. The computer is one of the best inventions because it helps you with a lot of things. Number one is work. It allows us to save all our important document and keeps them in a private file. The microwave oven. This is a machine that heats thing. Itââ¬â¢s great in homes for when you want to heat foods. About 1/3 of the world has one. Iââ¬â¢ll say this; microwave oven heats your foods but also destroys your health. As the microwave heats up, it sends of radiation inside and out. Your foods become polluted with radiation and if youââ¬â¢re too close to it you as well. Who likes eating cold food? I mean we all like food nice and hot, so we should have a microwave oven in our houses. I personally canââ¬â¢t go without a microwave. It one of my favorite scientific inventions. One of the most used scientific inventions would be the motor vehicle. Now this is brilliant! The motor vehicle or should I say, cars are very common to our modern day lives. EVERYBODY has one. Well if you have a license of course. Now cars are a complex piece of machinery. Itââ¬â¢s like youââ¬â¢re basically holding a fully loaded gun. Almost every day there is an accident that occurs. We may not see it, but it happens. People get greatly injured or even die from car accidents. On the positive side, cars do have its advantages. People use cars to transport themselves around. It takes you from one place to another. Instead of having to walk, you drive. Another thing about cars, it pollutes the air badly. This is so because cars give off a great deal of smoke sometimes. This affects the greenhouse gases and even worse, the ozone layer. If the air is completely contaminated people with die. People that believe these machines are not good for our lives are somewhat correct but wrong. I believe that it has made our lives really easy and less complex. I think it has done wonders to the world and we should all appreciate the advantage we get from this.

Federalizing Aiports Essay -- Airport Security Government control Essa
Federalizing Aiports On September 11th, 2001, the United States was dealt a devastating blow when our own airplanes were used as weapons of a terrorist attack. Within just days of the attack our nations leaders began debating over how we could solve our airport security problems. As citizens of the United States were avoiding airports, because they did not seem safe, the House and the Senate of the United States Congress argued whether or not airport security staff should become federal employees. The United States House representatives, and President George W. Bush, disagree with the fact that airport security should be federalized. After evaluating the Senates proposal the House found many reasons as to why federalizing airport security is not logical. The proposal to federalize appeared to present many flaws. The fact that the proposition "concentrates on passengers and ignores the thousands of caterers, cleaners, refuelers and others with access to airports and jets who lack mandatory background checks or ID cards" (Why Federalizing Airport Security is a Bad Thing). With insufficient knowledge of the employees background or identification, another travesty, much like September 11th could occur whether security is federalized or not. The Senates solution to make one set of standards for the employees concerns the House. With the so-called "one size fits all" plan, there would be deficient security at many airports, because the sizes of our airports greatly vary. If standard s were set to secure all major airports, such as Chicago OHare and John F. Kennedy airport in New York, then many small airports would be overwhelmed by the amount of security they are required to have. As the House stated "a one size fits all soluti... ...h government intervention, the interests of the House will also be met by not forcing all airports to federalize their employees. Earliest American Literature was English and Literary Essay
Earliest American writers were Englishmen who came to Jamestown, Virginia, the first of the permanent settlements of the English in America. These writers included John Smith, the author of A True Relation of Such Occurrences and Accidents of Note as Hath Hapned in Virginia Since the First Planting of that Colony, which is now resident in the South part thereof, till the last returne from thence; William Stratchey, author of True repertory of the wreck and redemption of Sir Thomas Gates, July fifteenth, sixteen hundred and ten; and the famous English poet, George Sandys, who completed Ovidââ¬â¢s Metamorphosis on the American soil (ââ¬Å"Early Colonial Literatureâ⬠). Since none of these writers were acquainted with American culture as we know it, their works must be considered English literature composed on the American soil. Although Smithââ¬â¢s A True Relation was a letter written to his friend in England, it is literary in the modern sense of the word. Like other pieces of historical literature, A True Relation is educational for the modern reader. What is more, the writerââ¬â¢s arrangement of the narrative is rather vibrant, making it by no means appear as everyday writing (Smith). Like Smith, Stratchey also wrote for readers back in England but his writing style was more masterful. Describing a shipwreck on the way to America, he writes, ââ¬Å"The clouds gathering thick upon us, and the winds singing and whistling most unusuallyâ⬠¦Ã¢â¬ (Stratchey). In fact, Stratcheyââ¬â¢s style is poetic throughout his work, rendering it not only literary but a work of art (Stratchey). Of course, Sandysââ¬â¢ translation of the Metamorphosis is incomparable. It continues to be a well-known piece of literature composed on the American soil by one of the first Englishmen to arrive in Jamestown bringing the spirit of the true English poet to the New World (Sandys). Because all three writers came from England carrying their own culture to the American soil, their works composed in America were entirely English. Moreover, all three writings mentioned were first published in England. Perusing these interesting, skillfully composed writings leaves no doubt in the modern readerââ¬â¢s mind that these works are literary indeed. Hence, earliest American literature must be described as English and literary. Works Cited ââ¬Å"Early Colonial Literature. â⬠Bibliomania: Free Online Literature and Study Guides. 11 Jan 2009. . Cognitive Psychology - Free Essay Example
Sample details Pages: 3 Words: 806 Downloads: 3 Date added: 2019/10/10 Did you like this example? Article Analysis In order to undertake the study on the role of consciousness in cognition appropriate sample size was necessary. The number of units needed for analysis in the study should have been determined by the research problem under investigation. For this study, there is no clear analysis of the sample used. Donââ¬â¢t waste time! Our writers will create an original "Cognitive Psychology" essay for you Create order It is mentioned that twenty ââ¬â eight participants were recruited. This is quite a scanty description because the study should have looked at the impact of consciousness on cognition. The author has not elaborated how the sample was arrived at and whether it was fully representative of the targeted population. There is need to give a comprehensive information regarding the criteria used to select the sample population and whether it is a correct representative of the population. The author did not give a satisfactory description of the participants. It is important to give attributes of the sample such as the age, educational background, healthy status related to vision, level of exposure and interaction with different environmental aspects. Such information is quite important in understanding behavior during and after the study. A comprehensive description of the sample helps future researchers and policy makers to develop relevant intervention measures either to increase cogni tion or treatment of those with problems. It was important in the participantsââ¬â¢ section to define the population of study hence justify the sample. The sampling method is very important because it will help show whether the representative portion was selected. Because of a poorly chosen sample, it was difficulty to gather sufficient data for analysis. There was a limitation on having sufficient data to study different attributes of the participants and how they affect their consciousness in cognition. The scanty information regarding the sample population made it difficult to relate different ways of cognition with a group in the population. Despite the challenges in selection sample and data collection, I think theà author was able to draw valid conclusions from the results. From the two experiments, the classic findings was replicated that attention could be directed by both conscious and unconscious cues. Participants showed that learning was rapid regarding cues that they were conscious aware of and changing strategy whenever the cue-target is changed. This finding agrees with the studies done before which showed most of our mental life is conscious. The study has not found any evidence of learning regarding cues processed unconsciously. The study has found that there is a clear difference between conscious and unconscious status. The results of the study do not contradict other recent studies regarding context-specific conflict adaption. This is an indication that the study has drawn a valid conclusion from the results. Hence, participants are able to benefit from both a conscious and unconscious cues. This is si milar to the proposition of the theory of consciousness, in which consciousness and unconsciousness processing take in similar processes within cortical systems but are different based on their neural dynamics. Critical Evaluation The New Yorkââ¬â¢s Time Article, titled; ââ¬Å"Why You Canââ¬â¢t Trust Yourself to Match Photos of Strangersââ¬â¢ Facesâ⬠by Heather Murphy is an excellent educative material on why it is surprisingly difficult to match photos of strangers. Several studies have shown that people will not be correct around 10% to 30% of the times when they requested to determine if two photos of people looking similar are of the same person. There were questions on whether being experienced professionally improves the accuracy. This is one of the most recent studies geared at assisting authorities at the border to become more accurate at spotting fraudulent travel documents. The article is very relevant and useful in the current security environments in which terrorists activities have been on rise. In most of the occasions, these terrorists have been travelling using stolen or forged documents so as to hide their identification. The article has very educative information on how to match a person to his or her photo. It has highlighted how one can be able to differentiate and match hairstyle so as to avoid fraudulent usage of other peopleââ¬â¢s documents. The online test is important in that it enables one to reexamine his or her facial identification skills after short learning. On the other hand, the article has poorly introduced its contents for a new person or learner. The fact the article has no basic introduction on matching photos, makes it complicated for a new person to start learning. The fact that the materials are out and accessible to each person, it is possible for criminal groups to learn ways of beating the system. Though the article is aimed at educating the public on how they can improve their investigation skills, it can be wrongly used to commit crimes. Despite these challenges, it is my strong belief and conviction that the article has more positive roles to play in the society.
